Fort Lee Fort Lee, New Jersey is where Interstate 95 crosses the Hudson River.
Fort Independence located in the Bronx New York, east of Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
North River the Hudson River, which separates Fort Lee from Fort Independence.
Rings Bridge possibly Kings Bridge, near Fort Independence.

cannon then & retreated. Then went to Chester, was in no other battles the
first year. After wintering at Wilmington in 1778, in the spring he went
with detached troops commanded by Colo Pope (of the Delaware Troops) to
Bumbo-hook Island & remained about a week. landed on the Island
& burnt the houses because the inhabitants supplied the enemy with provis-
ions & were tories. while on the Island the Brittish York Sloop
landed two boats full of men. Declarant was one of ten selected to destroy
their boats, but the party discovering the americans fled & got abord of the
Ship. remained on the Island about eight days. returned on the day that
houses were burnt, marched off in full view of the York Sloop leaving
one company on the Island in ambush. then three boats full of men from the Sloop
landed & the company which remained took their boats & destroyed them
& took the men prisoners. The Capt & Paymaster & Clerk of the Sloop
were among the prisoners. Returned then with the plunder gatherers on the
Island to Dover (he believes) thence to Wilmington. He was also in the
Battle of Monmouth. went from Wilmington to Philadelphia then to
Monmouth. Genl Scott commanded at Monmouth. the rear guard of
which declarant was one. Colo Morgan commanded the left wing.
Genl Lee commanded the right wing. Lee brought on the engagement
before Washington got on the ground & one day too soon. Washington ar-
rived in the evening. Then went to or near Elizabethtown. Was in no other
battle this year. Wintered at Bonbrook or Middlebrook. In 1779<
during the year he served several months under Colo Nat. Guess who
commanded three companies. Capt. Smith commanded Declarant. was
employed to watch the brittish about Fort Lee & Fort Independence
near the North river & Rings Bridge. During the war he was once
in Connecticut & he believes in Rhode Island. spent one win-
ter at Kimble Farms - but whether the second or third winter he does
